A toolkit for building local and community 'Do-It-Yourself' wireless networks using low-cost hardware and open source software.
TOOL DESCRIPTION
MAZIzone is a digital infrastructure located within a physical urban place (a community or a coworking space, a school, up to the neighbourhood or district level), organised and managed by the people involved. Through the creation of a 'network without the Internet', a MAZIzone contributes to the development of collective awareness in relation to the co-management of spaces, promoting collaboration, social cohesion, conviviality, participation in decision-making processes, self-organisation and the sharing of knowledge, experiences and tools.
The toolkit consists of software, free of charge and available as code in a Github repository, and hardware, to be purchased.
Suggested Hardware:
- Raspberry Pi model 2 B, zero, 3 B, 3 B+
- MicroSD card (16GB or higher, over class 10 speed)
- USB wireless adapter with external antenna (only for Raspberry Pi 2)
Optional:
- Portable USB battery for portable use
- USB wireless adapter with external antenna (for dual mode)
- Keyboard/display (for installation with raspbian image)
